Potato Pastry Roll with ham and cheese is a rich, tasty dish that is very easy to prepare. It can be served as an appetizer or main course, or to take to a picnic, for an appetizer or buffet. In short, whichever way you serve it I assure you it will go down a storm, it is really delicious. It can also be a great appetizer to bring to holiday or Easter tables.

Ingredients :

  • 1 package of rectangular puff pastry
  • 4-5 potatoes (approximately 450-500 grams or 1 pound)
  • 1 egg
  • A handful of grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 150 grams (5.3 oz) of melting cheese (I used mild Provolone)
  • 150 grams (5.3 oz) of sliced cooked ham
  • 1 egg for brushing

How to make Potato Pastry Roll:

  1. For the Puff Pastry Roll with Ham and Cheese Potatoes, wash the potatoes and place them in a saucepan, cover with cold or warm water and bring to the stove. Add some coarse salt and boil the potatoes for 20-30 minutes (depends on size). Before removing them, test them with a fork; if it easily enters the flesh, they are ready. Drain them and let them cool for a few minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, cut the cheese into small cubes.
  3. Peel the potatoes and mash them with a potato masher, dropping them into a bowl. Add the egg, salt, pepper and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir.
  4. Open the puff pastry packet and with the help of the rolling pin spread it out and stretch it by a couple of inches. Cover it with the potato mixture, then sprinkle the cubes of string cheese, and finally cover with the slices of cooked ham.
  5. Start rolling from the longest part of the rectangle and form a roll. Close the two ends and transfer the roll to a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Make cuts with a sharp knife and brush the roll with beaten egg.
  7. Turn on the oven to 180°C (350°F) (static) and when it reaches temperature, bake for about 30-35 minutes (check for doneness).

Bon Appetit!
